Founding Prospectus
The environment for utilizing strategic intelligence in Japan is undergoing dramatic changes. When comparing to Western countries, which actively utilize intelligence, it is difficult to say that the environment for utilizing intelligence in Japan is well-developed. The current situation of severe competition is forced in important aspects of military and economy of other countries, which form the framework of a nation. The importance of intelligence is obviously increasing, which is the product obtained through global and seamless collection, analysis and evaluation of complex and diversified information.
In Japan, there is no clear “intelligence community” linking public and private sectors or between organizations. For this reason, knowledge sharing, or cross-sectional information coordination has not been carried out. The utilization of intelligence is not only predominantly used in military but also used in increasing complex economic activities and intensifying international development competition. Therefore, specialized knowledge of this field is indispensable.
To establish a Japanese Strategic Intelligence Community is not difficult. Our aim is to share knowledge and build a network among groups and organizations which actively promote the utilization of intelligence. The specific purpose is to provide an opportunity to share knowledge and build an international network through annual symposiums.
Furthermore, in Western countries, intelligence-related education in higher education institutions is common. Considering the fact that it is placed as a common-sense subject, it would be ideal if community activities could contribute to the development of strategic intelligence education in Japan as well.
